Musician and founder of the legendary Van Halen band, Eddie Van Halen, has died of cancer at 65. Starting in the lungs, cancer spreads to the brain and other organs.
Cited from TMZ, Eddie died at St John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. Previously, Eddie battled cancer for over 10 years.
Sources said Eddie had been in and out of hospital over the past year, including in November for treatment of digestive issues. Recently, he also underwent a series of chemotherapy treatments to treat his cancer.
It was also reported that Eddie had traveled back and forth between the United States and Germany to undergo radiation therapy. Although he’s already smoked heavily, he himself believes that his throat cancer stems from the habit of biting a plectrum in his mouth more than 20 years ago.
Eddie founded the Van Halen group, after his last name, in 1972 in Pasadena, with his brother, Alex Van Halen. Eddie and Alex also became permanent members of the group, which often changed staff.
